Have used PB blaster, propane pencil torch and an 18 inch breaker bar trying to remove the clutch drum lock nut. I'm turning the nut clockwise with controlled pressure. Have a piece of nylon rope stopping the piston. Not moving. Anyone had such a tough nut to crack? This saw is now running primo...don't want to twist the crank.

I would try rattleing it with an impact wrench set pretty low as not to twist the shaft off. Sometimes the jarring effect will loosen it up. If that fails, cut or split the nut to get it off. You may have trouble getting the clutch off also if that nut is stuck on that tight! Tom

Thanks, Tom. I'll try the impact wrench. May have some damaged threads to contend with. Bob

A WARNING to all owners of SXAO owners! Some saws evidently have a clutch that threads left-handed, and a drum nut on the end of the shaft that is right-handed! When I was having no luck with great effort removing the nut, I took it to my local machine shop. The "Ancient One" got it off after much head scratching, torching, impact wrenching, etc. Right hand thread. Had an equally difficult time with the clutch. Left hand thread. Go figure.

Hi Bob, On all my XL's that's the way they are. I believe the clutch is left handed threaded so when the chain is spinning the clutch won't spin off. I'm just a weekend tinkerer though. Hopefully the pro's chime in and get us on tract.
