A neat little trick to replace starter pawl springs is to make them yourself from solid strand steel fishing leader. They are easy enough to form with a couple of needle nose pliers and vice grips or a small vice.

Neat idea Do you think the wire will retain its springiness

No more movement than than they go through they should last for quite a while. I've used leader wire to make springs for other stuff to include a lifter spring for a Remington 1100 shotgun which has been working for 8 or 9 years now.

I had to remove the flywheel on a saw to gain access to the fuel tank. Rather than remove the pawls and springs, I zip tied the pawls open while I backed the nut off the flywheel. After re-installing the flywheel...cut the zip ties.
