Here is a trick I tried tonight and thought I would share it with you all. While putting the reed plate and carb back on one of my C5's a bolt borke off due to fatigue. Not excess torque. When I got the reed plate and top cover off, along with the Phenolic (sp) plate, the broken bolt was just below the case. I couldn't move it with a dental pick as I sometimes do. I did not have an easy-out that small, but I carefully drilled the bolt and thought I would try a small Torx bit from a Black and Decker set I had. To my surprise, it worked as good, if not better than an easy-out. I hope it works for you guys as good as it did for me.

I've tried everything to get out the long hex screw on the 775 - that thing is frozen in there

Heat no - oil yes. It's the hub behind the recoil (clamped on to the crank). It appears to be aluminum.
It isn't broken, though the hex socket is now well abused. I am searching for a hex wrench to fit my impact and that may help. Coincidentally, the torx/star idea occurred to me as well a week ago, but the hex head is recessed about .5 inch so my torx set won't reach. If I could find my old Jensen set it might work.

Now that the head is buggered its going to be tough no matter what, but try this. Take a flat punch and tap the head of the screw to try and return the deformed metal to its original location. Next, Heat and oil and tap, repeat many times letting things cool completely between tries. Apply the oil while still hot but not so hot that it all smokes off.
Now Try the bolt.

All good ideas - thanks.
I have a great deal of faith in the impact. It has worked for me countless times on old motorcycles (steel into aluminum/magnesium). It even worked on this saw for the case. The trick will be finding a star/torx or hex that will fit into the hole. I hate to drill the hub.

hey Zip, can you buy the Kroil anywhere? I have seen it before but never for sale anywhere. I use PB Blaster all the time. That stuff works wonders and everyone including the box stores has it. The only problem with PB is that it does not seem to lubricate well. I always spay a shot of oil on stuff after it breaks loose with PB to disassemble it. Would like to try the Kroil if i could find it. To Daustin-- hope you can get bolt out. I have a friend with a machine shop. He gets my nightmares like that. It costs me dearly and he hates me very much, but he usually saves me and my project. Chris

Hey Chris, google Fastnal, we have a nut and bolt company, they sell Metal fab supplies.
I think they are a national franchise. they carry Kroil. Creeping oil is the Shiznit.

I have heard of but never tried heating up the bolt and melting candle was on it. The wax should wick itself into the threads
