I recently got my 450 all put back together and running nice! I changed out the original carb with an SDC-69 carb that was standard on the 550 model. It should put all worries to rest if anyone wanted to do the the carb swap, as this carb has the HI adjustment that the original didn't. I never ran the saw with the SDC-54 carb and after hearing a lot of people worried about their units burning up because of leaning out, I decided to go this route. Everything is the same between the two carbs if you were to swap out as far as the throttle and choke linkage is concerned, as well as mounting. The only thing I had to do is drill out the carb grommet for the HI needle to show thru for adjustment. Hope this helps!

One question I have is.... where's the stockpile of SDC-69s sitting at ?? I've came across a few over the past couple of years, but I can't find any stores that normally have these in stock. Dan

Dan, I have a friend who had one new, but I would think that there would be some out there for the asking. Even used ones are keepers as the kits are plentiful. I just checked fleabay and all I could find was the 54 for $50. brand new. Tyler

Dan I thought I had good news for you, but I were wrong.
I just went and looked and what I thought was two 69's were just a brace of 54's......But Ill still give you a killer deal on them. ;D

Thanks for the thought Eric. I'll have to pass on the 54s. I actually have a few 69s sitting around, but I just know they've been a little tough to find.
