The XL-903 and similar saws use an unvented gas cap and the vent for the fuel tank is a screw in check valve part #A-65608. Well guess what, it can be fixed. It takes a standard Homelite Duck Bill. If you look closely, you will see the seam where the cap plugs into the body. Placing the check valve on flat solid surface and using a small sharp chisel, you can separate the the two pieces. Once apart, drop a new duck bill into it and press the cap back into the body. Should be good for another 40 years ;D
