Last summer I was having problems with intermittent spark on one of my SXLs. I checked and adjusted the point gap and cleaned with alcohol. I had spark while cranking, at least that's what is it seemed. It would sputter and run a little but then I couldn't get it started. Checked spark - no spark. Hummmm Pulled the flywheel again and my gap seemed tight and while I was watching and adjusting I noticed the problem: Uploaded with ImageShack.usAs the points tried to open, the spring tension overcame the strength of the fiber block and the crack so the point contacts would remain closed even though the follower moved. I've had the points on my bench all winter so I figured I better get this posted.
