Im converting a solid state setup ignition over to a chip setup. The old setup had the module missing so I decided to go a different route. I had to install a old point box bracket up with a old working coil. The flywheel that came with the solid state setup rubs against the point box making it useless. The flywheel back side is designed different but magnet placement is the same as older style ones. So lucky I had a extra older style flywheel that fit. Ive mocked up the chip and put on the pull start housing. The setup works well and a bright blue spark appears. Question: Before I make things pretty and splice up the wires better is the chip placement on the bracket gonna melt from the cylinder? What do you guys think.

Airflow is from the flywheel over the cylinder and out past the muffler. Why not just ground the chip lead to the same screw for the coil ground?

well i made a small bracket for the back of the chip just in case. There was a third wire that came with the kit. it was alot smaller so I swapped out the previous one shown in picture.
MCS- I didnt feel like cutting and splicing the wire down lazy I guess. The area by the coil is already tight as it is with all the extra wires.

I mounted a chip as you have yours & it failed after 2 months.when I replaced it I put the alu/finned side towards the cylinder, still going strong after 8 months & cut a lot of wood Don`t know if it made a difference or if the 1`st chip was faulty
