Hey guys. I just obtained a c-52 from a yardsale the other day that i plan to mount to a bicycle to make my very own gas powered bike. I was wondering if yall had any idea how many rmps this thing gets up to or how many rmps the clutch should disengage at (so i can imagine what kind of top speed I can get or how hard this thing might slam me when the gears grab on).
Also, i'm having a problem with the pull start. what I think is happeneing is that the recoil spring is slipping off the assembly somehow, so that after I pull on the starter a few times, there is so much slack in the line i have to dismantle it and rewind the coil manually. Any light that could be shed on my situation would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Well, I'm gonna go ahead and take a crack at this one. According to the Acres website the operating rpm for a C-52 is 6,000-6,500rpm. As far a when the clutch will engage I can't rightly say...its centrifugal so it will engage progressively with your rpms, when it will first begin to "pull" your bike is dependant on the weight of you and the bike and subsequently the amount of force the clutch must exhert on the drum (rpm wise). As far as your recoil problem I would say the spring is weak and you'll need a new one.
Though I have to say its too bad you dont have a bunch of trees to cut, those old torque monsters are fun to cut with. Good luck

Ohh, we have plenty of trees round here, but thats what the poulan is for. The gas powered bike is just a product of too much free time and too much imagination. At any rate, thanks for the rpm estimate, that will be helpful.

Hah! Thats a good one! I forgot about that thread, may have to update it soon, it was a fun one. This actually seems like a cool idea and if geared properly, with a good set of derailurers this thing would FLY!!! Mount it inside the frame like a motorcycle (duh) and run a chain to the big sprocket in the front. Then have your regular chain going to the rear and you would have 6-8 gears. You couldnt pick a torquier motor to use, just dont try using the saw throttle to rev it, put a bike throttle on it. Youll probably want to keep both hands on the bars......... .
