My first post! I have a Homelite C7 with a broken recoil starter. The serial number on the side of the saw is 1365101. Can anyone help with locating a parts source? Here's a picture of the damage:

Sorry for the huge picture. It was only a thumbnail size when I checked it on photo bucket....

Hi RM, welcome to the site! I'm thinking that it's a Fairbanks Morse recoil, someone on the site should have a used part, or be able to point you in a direction to find one. That style recoil was used on many different saws, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding the part. Good luck with your saw . Post a pic when you get it back together! Jim--- the CSW

OK, I can atleast get you the guts, the NOS ones I have are for pumps or something, Their HUGE! But the innards are the same. Im going to go look over a C-5 in the shed and see if those parts will work. If they will, their free! If I have to gut a NOS unit their only cheap. BRB

The picture is small, but isn't the broken part just the fingers? Those are replaceable, and still manufactured.

Hi Edge,
I don't know the "IPL name" for these parts, but there is one broken part (the arm that holds the "dogs") and then one of the dogs is gone as well as the little clip and spring that hold the dog to the arm.
What happened was that I pulled the starter, the saw started up but also the piece broke off at the same time. The dog, spring and clip went flying somewhere in the woods along with the little end of the arm that broke off.
I was out cutting with the saw today. I just got an old pull starter handle and cut a piece of starter rope to wrap around the flywheel. She started right up and was throwing chips in no time!

Hi Lawnmowertech,
If you have the parts, I'll buy a set from you. RBW, did you find anything out in the shed?
Thanks, Bob

I got skunked on the used parts. I swore I had several saws out there that I now cant find, I either have a seceret hiding place that I have forgotten or my wife is ditching my stuff. I would have liked to have hooked you up with the freebies, but Im sure Calvin could use the sale anyhow. Now Im off to find that hidey hole.....

The fricton shoe I believe is the same as the one on a 090 Stihl. as pointed out before they were very well used, Now some of the other C series starters are not near as easy
