I recently had my SXLAO of 37 years seize up on me..sad day! (Data plate= LOT: D6086, SN# 04554809). My saw looks like the rear saw in this photo(http://img31.imageshack.us/i/homelite1m.jpg/) I went to my trusty parts list (attached) and ordered a piston (A68438), Cylinder (A69714), CR (A53477B), and associated rings bearings etc. When the cylinder came in from Chainsawr.com I checked the bore with the old piston only to discover that the one I ordered has a 44.4mm bore whereas my saw has the 46mm bore. I thought all of the SXLAO's had the 46mm bore but apparently the older ones had the 44.4mm bore. Now I'm worried that the parts list I'm working off is not the right list for my saw. If so where could I find the right part numbers? Can any of you guys shed some lite on this for me? And, since the stroke is the same could I use the 44.4mm piston and cylinder on my saw with no ill effects? Attachments:

The SXL's were 1 13/16" (46mm) bore and the part numbers you have listed are correct. I'm wondering if your order was filled with cylinder 69715 which the XL-12 1 3/4" (44.5 mm) and piston 58903-C...

i would try to return it for the right size parts. if you dont. you can use the piston and jug on the same crankcase. it will work fine. just will be a 54cc saw then.

Great help guys! Many thanks! I'll try returning the Cylinder. Or, if the piston is also undersized, I'll build a WXLAO instead. Either way, I should be back in business. Thanks again!

I checked out that web site and I would think he would exchange the cylinder and piston without a problem.

Did you try removing the flywheel to see if the bolts didn't back out and jam against it? Pretty common thing W/the XL series.

The thread was about the jug size so I assumed the troubleshooting had been completed adamsojp; Have you torn the engine down and verified the seize is from the piston and jug?
