Hi Guys, greetings from Canada. I was given a few old Homelites and am in the process of trying to get at least some of them functional. I think I've met a few of you over on AS, where you've given me a hand with an oiler problem with the XL2, but I just recently found this site which relates specifically to Homelites!!
First off was the XL2 which now works but I will be needing a couple of the duck bill check valves. This saw eventually goes back to the guy that gave me these saws.
Next is an XL1 (UT10483), 41cc engine. I haven't actually found an XL1 IPL, but after some research it appears that the SuperEZAO IPL is similar?
This saw came without the coil and is a point type ignition. The saw has lots of compression (160psi) and is in relatively good shape, including the points.
I did a pressure and vacuum test and it's fine.
According to the SuperEZAO IPL, the part number for the coil I need is 68716. If anyone has a used one for sale, let me know, as I was hoping not to have to bite the bullet and pay for a NOS one.
I also noticed what appears to be a decompressor button, but it doesn't seem to do anything as I can't move it?
Next was a pair of XL76 (UT50150 and 50139). Again I haven't found an XL76 IPL, but likely a VI123 IPL which I found is similiar?
One has a badly scored piston and cylinder and the piston pin is loose and looks like it moved out and scored the cylinder.
Also the main bearings are likely done. This unit was also missing the clutch cover. This will be the spare parts saw.
On the better saw, which runs after replacing the fuel lines, I noticed the oiler seemed to be applying more oil than necessary.
When I compared it to the other saw, I noticed it appears to be missing a small orifice near the bar area. I have attached two photos, one shows a saw with this orifice, the other without (inside the green circles). I haven't seen this part on an IPL and was wondering if anyone knows the part number?
I noticed that the one saw came with a set of guide bar plates, yet the other saw didn't. Are these really necessary other than providing additional guide/protection for the chain?
Lastly is an old XL902, at least thats whats on the recoil cover (77cc). This thing was so filthy inside and out, yet the piston/rings cylinder look almost new, once cleaned up.
The compression is 150psi and it passed a pressure/vacuum test.
Its missing a number of things, clutch cover, air filter and air filter top cover, the cover for the pump/diaphram side of the carb. as well the bar bolts are missing from the drive case and all thats left are two large holes and, in my view, likely unfixable, unless anyone has any ideas. Since the drive case is likely not repairable I'll likely part it out.
So if anyone has any IPL specific to the XL1, XL76 or XL902 please let me know.
Also if anyone has a used coil, knows anything about the oiling orifices or has any suggestions for the bar holes in the drive case, I would like to hear from you!
I have more photos if anyone is interested
Thanks guys, and by the way, great site!!
