So I just got an XL12. Recoils fine, but doesn’t turn engine over. Figured out the dawgs(what are they actually called?) were froze for the most part. To remove the screen, on nut came off properly, but the other brought the stud with it. One dawg is completely froze and the removed one of course is loose and removed cause the whole stud came out. Are the springs broken? Or should a good lubing fix this? I’ve never worked on this part of a saw so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Some other things about this saw are it has sat for 8+ yrs, has a stack muffler, and has some minor scoring. Attachments:

I got the dawgs nice and free. The hard part is wiggling the recoil back on, lol. Still haven’t gotten it.

Try pulling the rope a bit when putting the recoil housing back on.

Try pulling the rope a bit when putting the recoil housing back on. That’s what I ended up doing yeah. Thanks. The engine turns over good and the recoil works good now.

Can you post a picture of the complete saw. I'm guessing it's an early on by the 2 threaded exhaust

That's definitely an early one. Does it have the ID tag with serial number?
