I’m the new owner of a homelite xl-1 chainsaw. I noticed that mine is missing the coil when I was cleaning and inspecting, is there a coil that would fit this little saw? And what size bar are recommended for these little guys? Oh and how to I find the year? The tag reads: unit # 10483 and the serial # T78 00078. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome UT:10483 ( XL-1 Automatic ) SN:T7800078 .. Date of Manufacture: 1978 A 16" guide bar is what most were equipped with from factory. Need to know the makers name on the flywheel ( Wico/Prestolite or Phelon ) to find a replacement coil. I think it was still a points ignition in that year ( check for a wire going under the flywheel ), but may have been electronic with the Prestolte Module.
