Tonight I’m working on my Homelite ST165. I have the carb removed, disassembled, and soaking in Berryman’s overnight. Will spray clean it and probably rebuild it tomorrow. Anyways, getting the Welch plug out was quite difficult. We used a punch. After getting it out, we saw that we damaged something. What is the black thing I circled in red in the attached pic? Did we ruin it? Or is this ok? The carb is a Zama. Attachments:

Are you talking about the corner of the opening that is rounded? Or something down in the bottom of the recessed area? Tough to tell from the picture.

Here is possibly a better picture. I’m taking about the black part I circled in general, that was under the Welch plug. We bumped it and impaled it with the punch we used to get the Welch plug out. I don’t know what the black thing that I circled under the Welch plug is.

Hmm, I'm not sure I ever pulled the welch plug out of one of those. Not sure what's in there. I've worked on tons of 165's but usually just installed a new fuel line, maybe a new filter and done.
Maybe someone else knows what's in there? Is it a loose piece? Can you take it out?

It isn’t too loose. It black and hard plastic. Kinda like a pin or screw body, but there isn’t an exposed head on either side…

Interesting. I've never seen anything down in one of those passages. I'm guessing the bottom side is the important part and that the top isn't really doing much so if there's not much damages, you might get by with it.
The IPL doesn't appear to show a replaceable part for that area other than the welch plug.
Might just have to pop a plug back in the hole and give it a shot.

The OEM Homelite kit for this carb does include a black disk about the same size as the Welch plug. Not sure where the disk is supposed to go, possibly under the plug ? www.ebay.com/itm/285287172409

That's weird, didn't show it in the IPL breakdown. But I don't know where else it would go. If it goes under that plug, the one that's in the carb now is definitely a mess. Going to have to pick it out and clean it out of the hole.
That new disc must just act as a gasket? Never seen anything like it. Don't know why it wouldn't work without it as long as the plug is sealed up.
Maybe I'm missing something?

There is this part that’s in the kit that has been mentioned. We have no idea what purpose it would serve. Nor do we know how to go about installation. Attachments:

Maybe if you get the old one dug out of the hole in the carb, it will become more clear how it's installed?

Yes, there is only 1 adjusting needle. I did not remove the piece and am hoping for the best. We are done with the rebuild. We attempted re-installation tonight. I’m aware the choke linkage to choke handle isn’t fully in place yet. I'm aware the plastic air cleaner holder isn’t in yet, we just needed the bolts to hold it in place temporarily. We are carbaffled with the throttle set up. The part I circled in red in the picture stops it from going to full throttle… Attachments:
