i got a xl12 that i just fixed with new carb kit cleaned carb air compressed all vent off and new fuel and gas it started and runned but the idle was way to high so i shut it of f and adjusted the carb but nothing seemed to change ,next day the thing wont start the gas come thru and the sparkplug does make fire, getting tired of this damn thing .
i have the small spring in the carb that sit under the point and its pretty worn out im thinking this might be the problem but when the saw was running with the rpm way too high it was pumping gas fine.the saw also has good compression

Sounds like maybe it's flooding? That's not the hi idle issue. The idle issue could be an air leak, probably a crank seal as old as all these old saws are getting.
For flooding, make sure the inlet needle is good on the rubber tip. If there's a ring indented around the tip of the rubber, it needs to be replaced. Also, that spring under the inlet lever sometimes doesn't hurt to stretch it another 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch.
You can tip the saw while it's running to check the crank seals. Tip it from side to side and see if the idle speed fluctuates.

Did you use a Chinese carb kit or OEM? If its chicom that could be your problem, most of the chinese kits have a longer nub on the needle diaphragm, compare it with your old one. Also do as blythkd reccomended & check the needle & spring, dont let it get to you take your time, watch a few of Leon's videos.

To my knowledge, the Chinese carb kit thing mostly affected the Walbro HDC metering diaphragms. But I suppose it's worth a shot to compare the old parts to the new ones if you did use a cheap kit and still have the old parts. I assumed Walbro SDC but probably should confirm. Are you talking about a Walbro or Tillotson carb on this saw?
