Hi Guys, You may have seen this last week on eBay, and I was a bit fascinated enough to buy it. The 5-30 manual is unused and pristine, with just a light thumb print smudge on the right side of the front cover, otherwise it's in new condition. But what I wanted was the receipt! A 5-30 back in 1953 cost $375 out the door, which I'm guessing was an average price. What's amazing is $375 in 1953 money equates to $1490 today!!! That's a LOT of money for a power tool. I guess compared to professional chainsaws of today that might be in line, but not for anything 'consumer' grade. And if you had a business you could write it off, but for a homeowner or non-professional logger.......that's an amazing amount of money. Consider that the median price of a home in the US in 1953 was $18,000 and I'm a bit stunned they actually sold that many saws. I guess there were a LOT more trees back then that needed to be cleared to build those cheap houses!! ;O)

That is really cool! If an old saw has a manual with it the poor thing is oil soaked and or grungy with mouse chewed and missing pages. Makes me wonder if the saw was kept just as clean.
