Ive got 7 XL Automatics all with platic bodies and tonight I see the difference in the position of the triggers. I have two that have the trigger more forward and when the trigger is pulled, the linkage pulls the lever on the carb up. These have the HDC48. The other have the trigger more to the rear of the handle and when the trigger is pulled, the linkage pushes the lever on the carb down. Obviously the two different designs require a different lever on the carb so a differently configured carb. According to manual 17868 the carb called out is the HDC65 but I have an HDC65 that actuates the same as the HDC48. The linkage needs to be pulled up not pushed down so I'm a little confused. The manual also calls out the ZAMA C2S-H5 but I dont have one to compare to. The UT in question is the 10655. Basically what Ive got going is I bought a short block with electronic ignition. Engine pulse oiler. The piston and cylinder are in beautiful condition. I also bought a new NOS engine case and a new NOS starter cover with the 10655 configuration trigger but up until now I thought they all pulled up to advance the throttle but now I know there are differences so now I'm on the hunt for a carb pushes rather than pulls if that makes any sense so I'm basically assembling a machine from spare parts. Ive got everything but the carb and the linkage rod. Does anybody have these two items? This will be one of the two saws I keep for myself. The others i'm going to refurbish and put up for sale..... Maybe.....

I guess all I'm familiar with is the style that pushes the carb linkage wire down. Maybe that was one of the later redesigns that pulls it up. I didn't have near as many years experience with those.
Those parts shouldn't be hard to find. You're looking for new?

You're overthinking it a bit...the difference in trigger designs are handled by the design of the trigger pivot point or the linkage contained in the throttle handle. The carburetors all function the same, with the same throttle rod between the carburetor and trigger or cam assembly. For the type of XL you are building, the Zama is a perfect choice for period correct, but the HDC-65 works just as well. This IPL show's what's under the throttle handle cover...the front cam that the throttle rod attaches to is what achieves the same movement as your older single trigger designs: www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/uploads/3/9/7/9/39792537/homelite_super_2_ut-10654_xl_ut-10655_chainsaw_ipl_17868_.pdf

I tend to overthink things sometimes Leon but that keeps me out of trouble in some ways. I still have alot to learn about these saws but I'm using this learning experience as therapy so I'm just having fun with it.
