Hi, I have a Homelite 26b / UT09525 blower that died last year which I'd like to repair. The story is that when it began running erratically, I deduced a carburetor problem so installed an aftermarket unit. It ran beautifully...for about 10 minutes. At that point it stalled and has never started again. Replacing the original carburetor made no difference. I didn't have a compression gauge at the time but have one now, and it's getting a bit under 80 PSI, which must be the issue. There is scoring on the piston, but not horribly so. Repairing and caring for 2 cycle engines is new to me, but it feels like I'm learning pretty fast.
I'd like to repair it as cheaply as possible without affecting quality and trying to avoid buying a full OEM short block assembly (part# 309963001) but there don't currently appear to be many options. Does Homelite break down the short block further into piston/ring/rod, cylinder, etc., or would individual parts be used or aftermarket? I can't find any compatible Chinese parts. Renu4UShop on EBay (https://www.ebay.com/str/renu4ushop) has some interesting open box stuff, but again nothing appears compatible. Does anybody have suggestions on where to go or what to buy? What would you do? Thanks!

How much does the supplier want for a new short block?By the time you buy the cylinder, pistom,& rings individually you may be better off with a new short block.

Umm, roughly from $40 to $70. Was hoping somebody would have an insider tip to help me save a buck. Maybe realizing that a Chinese model is the same thing, even if the seller doesn't?
In the end my secret weapon may be searching for a discontinued model number. Amazon (of all places) has the short block for under $50 shipped, and I should have a little saved credit, too. May pull the trigger tomorrow.

If $50 is for a complete short block, seems pretty reasonable to me. The fact that parts are even available for some of these models is fairly surprising to me since most of the Homelite products anymore are considered throwaway models. You can buy a new blower at Home Depot for $119. I think it's UT09526, same 26cc size.

That's why I wanted to keep the price down. I might have investigated electric blowers, but right now just want something inexpensive and predictable. FYI, this is what I'm considering: www.amazon.com/308892033-Replacement-Short-Block-Assembly/dp/B08TGFC9BDShould probably buy now else somebody see this post and snatch it, lol.
EDIT: $47.62 total. Now let's hope the seller actually has stock and this isn't some entry they forgot about from years ago.

Update: the short block shipped from the other coast, and maybe due to the Labor Day holiday, didn't arrive until last Wednesday. Before doing the swap I wanted to ask about the included bag of parts:
I am reasonably mechanically inclined and can probably figure it out, but is anybody aware of a diagram of how it fits together? Or maybe you notice a part(s) that won't be needed? What I really don't know is if I'm supposed to lubricate anything (like the bearings) before installing and if so, with what? Thanks again!
