So, I picked up this machine with the string head for my rental property for the lofty sum of $5.00 for my then renter because she kept leaving the previous ones out in the weather and I got really tired of spending $75-$100 every spring. My criteria had become if it runs, and it will make it through one season, ok. I’d never seen this old model before, so I looked up the owners manual and saw that it would accommodate a circular saw blade. Since I’ve got an issue where a previous tennant had planted bamboo near the septic drain field, I hunted down the head and blade OEM kit for $50, and it is now a valuable tool for taking out shoots and controlling the spread of the bamboo. The previous owner had fashioned a homemade filter, which is too thick apparently causing the filter cover to spring off. He’d cut a hole through it which confuses me about how this thing gets air and why the throat of the carb is left open, but apparently that’s how it was designed. I really want to replace this with the proper dimension filter so it’s not popping off the cover but can not find the part number. The ipl for this machine online that I’ve found does not have the number for that, although all four of the other pages have the respective numbers for some reaso, that page does not. Any help tracking that number down would be greatly appreciated.

See if this will help. Part should be 94456. IPL should be 17435.

Yes, that filter should have a hole through it that fits snugly to the round air inlet above the carb. The plastic cover that you're having trouble keeping snapped down tightly seals up against the filter keeping dirt and debris out. Dirty air on the bottom of the filter, clean air on top.
I don't know what blade you have for the brush cutter attachment. They typically came with a regular saw blade that looked like a combination blade for your skilsaw or table saw. There was also an optional Tri-arc blade that was 3 sided. There was also an optional Machete blade that had chain saw teeth riveted to it. If you don't have a Machete blade and can find one, those things are a real animal compared to the other blades.

The nos kit came with the circular saw blade. It’s a bitch in the kitchen as my father in law used to say when it comes to bamboo, and does a satisfactory job with small hardwood saplings. I would love to find the chain saw blade, because the motor and shaft seems more than capable of using it on larger pieces. About the cover for the filter: with no filter in, the cover doesn’t seem to seal tightly at all, but does not appear to be deformed. I assume that the proper thickness of the foam will exert the proper amount of pressure to the underside of the cover to keep it tightly attached? The owners manual says you may need to pry the cover off.

Yes the thickness of the filter is key. The grid on the bottom side of the cover presses slightly down into the filter, sealing itself to the filter.
And yes, the 200 is pretty solid. I tuned one up pretty good years ago. Everybody that saw me running it wanted to buy it. It was a real hog and never had a failure. The flex shaft in them is pretty tough.
