I don't remember how I found House of Homelite but I'm curious how others are finding the site. I searched on Google with "Homelite chainsaw repair help" and after scanning the first 15 pages of hits I did not find a link to HoH. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this site show up on Google searches? Jacks small engine, mfgsupply, and our friend Randy are among those that show up but no HoH I wonder what is used to create the search index in google

A7e, I first heard about this site over on AS. I just googled a bunch of different 'saw' terms that might bring up HOH, but was un-sucessful each time. We have to work on changing that, RBW might have some ideas. Jim

Google Search = Homelite help -- HOUSE OF --HOMELITE - Login Forum Jump, --------------------, » Home, --------------------, » General Homelite Discussion, --------------------, - The HoH Help Center ... houseofhomelite.proboards.com/index.cgi - Similar If the word chainsaw is left out of the search then HoH shows up using "Homelite help."The board's primary focus is chainsaws but if that word is in the search there are no hits in the first 15 pages, that's all the farther I checked. Could something like Homelite chainsaw discussion be added in the title or a sub title that would increase the search results? It may not make a difference but there is no space between the "-" and Homelite in the Board title. Instead of HoH Help Center how about Homelite Help Center. I think people who are searching for help will use the word chainsaw so what if we use the full word Homelite as much as possible and chainsaw as much as possible in the board titles and sub titles. Google search = Homelite discussion. The board shows up as the 5th entry. RBW, are you reading this? What do you think

Yep, been reading.....And thinking. Good sleuthing on your part Craig, but the key is to use the word Forum. "Homelite Forum" puts us at the top of the list. ;D The problem with HOH and google is Money, we dont have any, and they want 10K for guaranteed 1st page placement or 100K hits per year. We dont have either. Adding members would bring us up in any general search category, but searches are funny sometimes. The more hits a site gets, the higher its ranking. The only way to get around this is to pay.....Dearly, or get people to click on a link to this site. Simply looking up "Homelite parts" Pits us against thousands of dealers and other sights that sell "New" Homelite equipment. This is why that search gets you nowhere. If you look down in the very bottom left of the page youll see I have us hooked up (finally) to Quantcast. We've only been hooked up a week or so after months of trying, but already the numbers are doubling every few days. This "Quantification" will/can get us noticed by advertisers and get us link partners somewhere down the road. It shows them that were not a waste of time and are worth investing in. This was going along smoothly untill recent board events brought things to a halt. Were not looking too good to the outside world when theres infighting and outbursts from long time members. This is something for all to consider. Yep, even me. We may be at the point that for the House to grow, we need a better board, but again, Money is key for this to happen. Ive seen advertizing where it works and where it dosent, and the Donation button while helpful just seems tacky IMHO. Right now and for the time being I would suggest Recruiting new members in whatever way possible. If your on other forums, ask the Mods if its cool to link to the sight in your sig line. Getting people to click the link, even if their not interested or just curious will get us moved up in rank. Ill get into more on this later, I just wanted to reply tonight so you didnt think I was tuned out right now. Key words for me:
OT threads, forums of interest, OT posts, funny topics

OK, now where was I.......
Ah, my Keywords.
Off topic posts and subjects may seem unnecessary and frivolous at first glance, but they serve a useful purpose as entertainment. Going back to the links, if someone links to this site even to read what jokes were telling or to see funny and or gross pictures, its still a hit as far as Google is concerned. Plus content like this gives a more open atmosphere to the site rather than just dull drab technical information. The difference could be compared to going to a restaurant like Fridays one day and finding they took all of the cool stuff off of the walls. Foods still good, but the place overall is nothing special.
Were small, we need to be special.
I think its in this sites best intrest if we all go out and recruit friends from other sites. Also, dropping links in any place you can will help get people here. Some people out there may be looking for a hobby and never considered collecting Chainsaws, I know I never thought about collecting tractors untill I went to a tractor show and I was hooked.
I could go on and on about this, but I think you get the picture.
Go forth and post links and we will prosper. ;D
