I bought a pair of Super 2s on feebay last week from 2 different sellers & got them both today.Saw #1 was an easy fix.I put a new fuel filter in it,checked it for spark (it's a points saw),& replaced the air filter.I had a good feeling about it when I changed out the fuel filter because it was quite oily.To me that meant the carb's diaphragms wouldn't be dried out & hard.It took 11 pulls & the saw fired.I turned the choke off & one more pull & it was running like a top.The only thing left for me to do is put the little tube back into the oil line with the duck bill, find a bar plate & nut & a chain. It should be good to go then. Saw #2 is another story. The recoil rope was hanging out all the way,so I took it off & apart to see what was wrong. The recoil spring is gone.I used another recoil to check for spark & the module is dead. It's missing the on/off switch & lead & the fuel cap.I gotta see what it'll cost to get all the parts I need.Believe it or not,the fuel cap is the most expensive @ $15 at Leon's.

I bought a couple of modules for the Super 2 & they came in the mail today.I put one on Super 2 #2 & found an oil cap to use on the fuel tank.I fueled it up,but it won't run on it's own.It looks like I'll have to pull the carb for a rebuild.I've never seen so many XLs & Super 2s that are missing the bar plate or the chain adjuster. This saw I just worked on is filthy,I should take some before & after pics.

Super2 #2 is a runner! I pulled the engine out of the case today & rebuilt the Zama carb.I also put a new fuel line in it.After I got it back together I fueled it up & it fired in a couple pulls, but wouldn't throttle up or stay running.I turned the lo screw out 1/4 turn & it made the difference, but still idling too high.I turned the lo screw out a bit more till it sounded right.I had to put a used recoil spring in it from a 240 recoil that I found,A new switch with used nut & plate, new ignition module,& a rebuild kit.I have a used bar & chain for it & I found a bar plate for it too.I took a pic of the case in it's filthiness.

Good deal.I used one of my newly acquired EZs today and it runs OK but is hard to start after I shut it off. My 16:1 fuel mixture may be too oily . May just rebuild the carb.

If it's a points saw the condenser may be getting weak.A classic sign of a weak condenser is hard starting when it's hot. Also, that mix of 16:1 is way too rich, try using 32:1 or 40:1.

Back to saw #1 today to put the metal tube back in the oil pressure line. What a disaster it turned out to be.I figured it best to pull the engine out of it's case to clean it & inspect the fuel & oil lines.I've had saws with screws that were seized in place & was eventually able to break them loose with heat & beat.It would've been much easier if some moron didn't use the torx screws that hold the fuel tank on an SEZ.I got 3 out of 4 out & the 4th screw broke off in the engine.I tried cutting a slot across the top of the screw with my Drermel tool for a slot head screwdriver. The screw just broke.I did manage to get the engine out of the case & then cut the screw off flush with the engine. The Torx screws are so hard I doubt it can be drilled.I guess the engine will be held in the case with 3 screws instead of 4. Edit:Oh yeah,I forgot to mention that the dumb ass was using an oil pick up as a fuel filter,Lol.

With used saws it’s possible to come across anything previous owners did to them

With used saws it’s possible to come across anything previous owners did to them Yeah Greg,I'm finding that out every time I get another saw.Nothing should surprise me anymore, but it still does every now & then. This latest stunt with using the oversized Torx head screws looks to me like it was done by a Homelite shop owner.Who else would have access to the Torx head screws that were used in SEZs?

I put a different carb on saw #1 today, along with new oil lines & new duck bills.I found the metal tube in the tank, but it was covered in black goo from the original duck bill.A soaking overnight in brake fluid took care of that.I've got it all together except for a new chain.I must have at least 20 chains, but they're either 16 in.or the incorrect amount of drive links.52 DL is just a bit short & 54 DL is just a tad long. One more place to look tomorrow for a goldi locks chain. Then I'll fuel it up & fill it with oil to see how it goes.

This little gal is a fine runner! I ended up buy a couple Oregon 53 DL chains on Amazon for $13 each. The saw seems to be oiling, but lightly.

I thought it'd be easier to revive this thread rather than start a new one.I've been hanging the smaller saws from the rafters in my barn to make more room in my garage.I came across saw #2 today & it didn't want to start without a prime.I found that this was the saw that needed a new lead from the switch to the module when I went to shut it off.I got it running nicely, then suddenly it was racing aty a high idle.Crap! It now needs crank seals! I must have at least a half dozen of these little buggers that need crank seals.I guess this winter I'll be becoming proficient at replacing crank seals on these little guys.
