I picked up a 450 some while back and just got around to looking at it. Tested the engine compression and had very exciting results close to 200 psi. So I started tearing it down and found the carburetor only has the low speed adjuster. I bought a used carb on ebay with both adjusters from a very well known parts guy, won't name him, but I'm sure most of you have bought from him. Question: I pulled the high speed needle and found the tip to be flat, not rounded, flat, could that be correct? I'm not sure what model Walbro SDC the carb is. Doesn't have the usual stamp on it. The only stamps on it are: E2 38b and 21-85 also made in japan. 38B is stamped in the top right corner of the carb, hard to see in picture because of the purple paint. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It looks worn to me...it shouldn't be needle sharp, but normally the high speed is a bit sharper than that. I'd guess that it would still tune okay though.

The 450 is finished, but I couldn't use the replacement carb. The saw requires a pulse line to the carb and the replacement has the pulse hole directly on the carb. I'm happy, even though I should have paid more attention when buying the replacement carb. I haven't put a bar and chain on it yet, but it ran great for the couple minutes I had it going. Going to pull the clutch and replace the rim drive and run a 24" bar. I could really do without the spikes it came with, probably going to shave them down.
