Hi Guys,
What have you found is the easiest way to re-install the decompression spring onto its post, or on later models its screw? The brute force way is going to scratch the hell out of the paint, and it's a nice SEZ....so would rather do it the smart way. Let me know how you guys do it.
thanks, bob

Did you unscrew the screw that the spring goes on? That's the only way I ever did it. Then hold the spring up in position, it'll have some load on it, and screw the screw through it. Nut goes on before going through the spring of course.

So you basically just took 2 pairs of pliers, one in each hand, and wound the spring up to the point that it would slide over the screw? Actually seems like the first time I tried to reinstall one I was trying something like that but that's going on 40 years ago nowso pretty foggy memories of it but I do recall I just started removing the screw. I suppose I'd try it again if I had a new technique to try.

Yes, 2 locking pliers are used to "flatten" out the spring. A conventional small locking plier on the loop end, and a thin needle nose locking plier on the straight end. Just clamp them on and flatten out the spring. It is then easy to put the center of the spring over the stud. Simply release the pliers one at a time and the spring is easily on without much trouble. Works quite well.

Way to go Tango.......worked like a charm! Didn't even scratch the paint!!! So thanks for the tip! Of course now I have to go figure out why my mini-ViseGrips are missing from my pliers drawer..... It's always something!
