This just popped up on eBay for $75 and it's a pretty cool piece of history. I guess back then guys wore red pants to cut down trees so they wouldn't see the blood if they missed. Got to love the good ol' days!! Enjoy! ;O) bob

I can't believe a cardboard box is bringing $75. Not that generation of box but probably starting with the next one, I threw hundreds of them in the dumpster! Never dreamed at the time that they might be worth something someday.
But looking back, a lot of stuff passed through my fingers that would be valuable today. Should have hung onto the last new saw of each model as they dropped out of production. That was just hard to fathom 30+ years ago. I had a couple of near NOS quality SXL's that I sold about 20 years ago. I think I got $225 each out of them. Hard telling how much more they'd bring now. Hind sight...

Yeah, sure is. When it comes to collecting, the paper products always command a high price, as they rarely survive. I was into toy collecting for a bit, and boxes usually brought more than the toy, since most threw them out and they're now rare. Same goes for chainsaws I guess. I doubt anyone will pay $75 for that box, but it would be nice to display your saw with its box. I love the graphics on old paper goods.....very telling of the timeframe. I got an old Homelite from an auction out in Iowa the other day and the box was full of newspaper (as packing) dated 1940. I uncrinkled as much as I could to read the articles........and it was fascinating. Pre-war America at it's best.

I found a 1980 newspaper in a box the other day. Headlines were about massive inflation, Exxon record earnings and whether or not we should go the Olympics due to tensions with Russia. Talk about deja vu!

Talk about deja vu! Ah 1980........the end of the Carter administration. Yeah, that would seem just about right. Like peas in a pod. ;O) bob

Don't forget about the Metric system conversion attempt! How many liters of gasoline do you need? How many cc's of oil do I need to add to get 32:1? Get the calculator ready

Yeah, got to love the metric system! It made sense, but that "you can't teach old dogs new tricks" thing came into play. We showed them!

Well............this nugget just popped up on eBay for $20.......so I figured for the price of lunch at McDonalds now-a-days.......I'd rather own a 1971 Homelite box than a cholesterol/fat monster of a lunch. Not as "out there" as the first box pic.....but what a difference a few years make. But it does have the 50th anniversary seal on it! Just wish it came with fries! ;O) bob

Interesting that someone actually had to hand write the serial number on each box. Now if you can find the saw that goes with the box, numbers matching, you will have done something!

Hadn't even thought of that! But yeah, finding THAT saw would be the shit, for sure! As for the handwriting of the model and SN.....I just assumed the guy who bought the saw wrote it on the box. I mean he was anal enough to keep the box....... ;O) bob

Hi 5t, Yeah, technically you're right.....but for me I say the Homelite we know and love died in 1994 when Deere bought them out. If not, then surely in 2001 when Techtronic bought them from Deere and they became owned by a company in Hong Kong. So I'd say they lasted a max of 81 years.....but who's counting! ;O) bob
