The sleeve, part number 55290, will be replaced along with a new plug wire. I am fortunate to locate the sleeve and I'm wondering if it is a heat shrink type. I did find that the sleeve is used in the aviation manufacturing sector and any specifications about it is restricted.

Hi still,
The specs aren't restricted.....they're obsolete. The tubing you're talking about was used on Homelite saws beginning in the 50's, before shrinkwrap was commercially available. 55290 is an insulating tubing made by 3M back in the day. It's pretty impossible to even find now-a-days, but it's just a plastic tubing rated for temperature, not a shrink tube. The trade name was Temflex, which 3M later kept and used for its electrical shrink tapes, so the Temflex we have today is not the same as the Temflex you're talking about as a sleeve.
