I recently purchased a Zip I believe it is a 1968 model according to chainsaw lady's records. I have already got a carb rebuild kit on the way, but what I really need is an air filter for it. Somebody told me Wix makes a replacement for it, but I can't find it. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not aware of an aftermarket filter...there's a few NOS filters on Ebay, but they aren't cheap. You might stumble across a good used one if you keep your eyes peeled.

Hi Jeremy,
This is an interesting post. It's sort of surprising to me that with the 'chainsaw restoration' thing going on that no one has repopped the filters. I pickup decent used ones on Ebay for $10-$20, but that ends up being quite a crapshoot ('pig in a poke' for you Southern guys). I was looking at the Donaldson filter site last night and wonder if anyone has approached them to make a run of small chainsaw filters like the older Homies use. They make "safety filters", which are smaller cylindrical filters (like what we're looking for) that fit inside their larger filters, that would probably work just fine for our needs. I just didn't see any dimensions in their catalog, just part numbers. I'm thinking with the huge variety of filters and filter manufacturers out there.......a usable (form, fit, function) filter exists. It'll just take some legwork to find it. I'll keep poking around and see what I can find. The ZIP (I think) uses a paper filter with a wire mesh over it. But the older bigger saws use those hard spun things (I forget the name, but found it on another saw website) that should be perfect candidates for 3-D printing. As I get deeper into this hobby I'll see what I can find out on the filter front. Paying some chucklehead $50 for an NOS filter really grinds my gears, despite the supply and demand thing working as it should. Great post.
regards, bob

I am also looking for the starter pawls. Mine are worn down to where it won't engage. I also am not sure how it engages, because the inside of the cup is smooth.. I may end up welding them up and reshaping them to work.
