Hello everyone, just picked up this saw Saturday. Can anyone tell me when it was built? It had mud dawbers nest on the exhaust port and piston, so I tore it down to clean and inspect. I had one small black screw that holds the carburetor 'block' or intake, that pulled 2 threads of the casing. Can this be fixed with a tiny helicoil? The piston and rings look ok, no scoring that I can feel, but the lower cylinder skirt under the side of the exhaust port is scored and I can feel the scores. Attachments:

The clutch cover seems misaligned at the top as well.

So, I know I should find a new cylinder, but can I try cleaning up the old one and see if it has compression? Can I use a cylinder from an xl 76? Seems to be a few of them around. I am in southern Ontario Canada.

Date of Manufacture = Thursday, March 22nd, 1973
Threads for the intake manifold can be repaired with heli-coils.
Piston and cylinder need clean up and further evaluation. An XL-76 cylinder will fit.

I've cleaned up and ran piston and cylinders that looked worse, which if it's just for collecting and to start now and again will be fine, but if you plan on actually using it, having another p/c would be a plus, these do make excellent firewood saws

Can someone please tell me the intake manifold bolt size so I can order a Heli-coil? Thanks.

Thanks 5Terry, it's actually the long screw that goes through the carb, item # 8, 10-32 on the Revision 1. Also, I found a used jug, piston and con rod for $ 50.00 cdn. I will put these in my old saw and use it! Thanks to all who helped, it means a lot!!
