Have been looking for a crankshaft that fits with a later C-72, part number 59270-2. A seller on eBay has what is claimed to be a Homelite crank with the number 59272. I've researched many IPLs and can not find that exact number. My next move would be to ask the seller what model Homelite it fits, the eBay ad makes no such claim.

Crankshaft #59272 will NOT fit a C-72. It was used on early SUPER XL and XL-Automatic, Refer to IPL:23840
There is a couple of 59270 crankshafts on eBay.

Thank you 5terrysupersaws for the heads up with that crank number. I looked at numerous IPLs for the large saws, thinking I could be sure not make a wrong purchase. Never thought of a saw with a lesser cc count. I have seen one crank on eBay, pretty rusty at all three bearing journals. I'll keep looking, thanks again for the help.

I think I have an old thread on here about the differences here. I purchased a 59270 crankshaft off of eBay over a year ago to use in a C-72 later model. It was not the same however I made it work and the saw runs fine. The difference was on the starter side. The earlier C-72 and the C-71 had a different starter. The threaded section on the crankshaft for the nut on the starter side was roughly 1/2 maybe 3/8” too long. I cut that off so that that it would be the same as the one I was replacing in the later C-72. It worked perfect and I experienced no assembly issues after the modification. I will look and see if I have some pictures from then but I may have posted them on the thread here where I discussed it.
