For the better part of a yr.I thought I'd bought an XL-122 last yr.,but now I'm convinced otherwise. The saw looks exactly like an XL-123,but it doesn't have a compression release. There are no tags or markings on the saw to indicate what model it is.It has manual & automatic oilers & came with an SDC carb in it.According to Acres' site, the XL-122 is manual oiling only (could be a mistake though).I don't think the saw came with a muffler on it,I can't remember. The choke rod was the same as the XL-123,I think the XL-122 had a different style choke rod.The throttle lock pin is steel as opposed to a black plastic throttle lock pin.Of course the choke rod & throttle lock pin could have been replaced at one time, but doubtful on my part.I'll get some pics on here tomorrow (hopefully).

I had a little time on my hands today,so I put a carb (Tilly HS132A) in the saw & gave it a few pulls & it was running in no time. With no muffler on it it's loud as all hell,Lol.I put a chip in it to see if I could get spark on it a few days ago & I got spark. Now I'm thinking of pulling the chip out & putting ther points & condenser back in.

I had something happen today that I don't think has ever happened before - I can't get the saw to idle.No matter what I do,I have the idle screw turned in all the way & I tried turning the lo needle in to 3/4 turn out from seating & it just won't idl;e.I put a sleeve of copper tubing over the idle screw, but that was way too much.Next thing I did was to put a piece of fuel line over the idle screw,it's better, but just a tad too much.If I can find a gutter spike ferrule I think that will be just right. Otherwise the saw starts easily & throttles up nicely too.I can't believe I ran out of 20 in.D096 bars.I ended up putting a 16 in.bar & chain on it (under kill to me).I've also come to the conclusion that this saw is an XL-120AM.I didn't get the points & condenser in it yet, still running with a chip.I also need to put a button on the manual oiler.
Here's the fuel line fix on the idle screw.

After fiddling around with trying to put used beverage container wraps on the idle screw I went back to the fuel line piece.I found thast turning the screw out like usual gave me good results.I was able to obtain a proper rpm for the idle. Now I'll take another compression test & see if the compression came up at all as it sometimes does after running a saw for a bit after it's been sitting for yrs.

I have an XL-130 Tim & the "XL-120AM" isn't even close to the 130 I have.I'll get a pic of the 2 of them side by side tomorrow if I have the time. The XL-130 I have is much heavier & different looking too. Edit:I stand corrected in that I have a Super XL-130.I don't know if there's a difference between them,or if they are one in the same. The SXL-130 fires up nicely, but screams at a VERY high "idle".I figured the seals were gone in it.And after looking at it again it doesn't look that much different, but it is indeed heavier.I wish I had a scales to weigh them both.

5Terry,take a look at the saw that's pictured on Acres' site & then compare it with the pic of my saw above, totally different especially the color scheme.

I wasn't able to upload any pics yesterday - the weather screws with my phone's ability to work at all.Today I was able to send the pics to my email that I took yesterday. The saw on the left is obviously my XL-120AM.The saw opn the right is the XL-130.Anyone here think they're twins?

The 130 on the left Red / black)is an early model, right side is the later model. !20 AM looks nothing like either one of those. Here's a pic of a 120 AM from Leon's collection Obviously guess what?

The saw on the left looks to be a points condenser ignition and the saw on the right is a red or orange chip with a black coil correct?

You got the 1st one right with having points & condenser, but the 2nd one has the blue coil of death.

Both goods saws Ed. How do you like the XL-76?

The XL-76 is a nice, light, yet powerful little saw.I can't wait to take it out cutting this fall if I'm able to.It was a fairly easy fix too with replacing the chip & putting on a new fuel line.I didn't even have to rebuild the HS125 carb that I had laying here that I used to replace the Walbro.

Not sure if you noticed but the recoil on that saw is from an XL-75. The tag on the rear handle / carb box is from a 76.
XL-75's came with a Walbro carb.
I guess it could be either.
The carb is the only difference I can see from the IPL's

Yes Tim,I did notice that.I'd go with what the tag says - XL76.They probably just replaced the recoil......but then again it did have a Walbro carb,Lol.There's really no difference between the 2 other than one was made in Canada & one was made in U.S.(and the carb difference).
