I have a super xl 925 and the clutch is engaging at idle. I know the washer between the drum and clutch is missing. I also attached a picture, it looks like the top shoe is very close to the drum.

Can you wiggle the clutch drum? If so the bearing is worn or missing.

That may be a replacement clutch. Original ones were a 6 shoe with garter spring on each side. You probably have a dragging clutch hub bearing. Try rotating the clutch outer hub. If it is dragging, thats your problem.

The bearing is greased, but I don't know if it is worn. I added a link to a short video of me spinning the drum.

A couple of the springs look stretched to me, the upper two in the picture. They may be weak.
Can you wiggle the drum up and down on the bearing? It should be pretty snug if the bearing is OK.

Thanks for the help everybody. The hub does wiggle some, so I'll replace that bearing. Is there a special trick to changing the springs on that style clutch? I have replacement springs but I cannot find information on how to change them correctly.

I hook them up with the shows on the bench and then stretch them into place over the hub. It's a bit of a PITA, but if you try to put them in place with pliers while the shoes are on the hub, you risk damaging the springs.

Thank you very much. The new springs went on with a bit of persuasion, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
