I'll be attempting my first piston change soon & I need advice on getting a GOOD pliers or set of pliers to help with this job.I've bought some cheapies in the past & they're good for crap.I know Knipex is a good brand, but they come in different sizes as I understand.I can't seem to find a pliers that has a tip small enough for the job intended. Is a 1.8 mm.small enough? Thanks in advance.

If you have a snapon dealer near by, check with him or her. If you find the size your after, the price will scare you but it will be a top quality tool. Worth a shot

I just put a piston on a rod for an XL-101 and I used a pair of Channellock 927 snap ring pliers. I had to use the smallest tips in the kit to fit the snap ring .036. They come with three sizes of tips: .036, .047 & .070. These snap ring pliers are made in USA or at least the ones I have are.

My tiny snap ring pliers are and always have been Proto. I suppose if you can still buy them they say Stanley on them now? IDK.
But don't forget about used stuff when it comes to high quality hand tools. I broke my favorite 16" Proto crescent wrench last summer and about cried. It was about 35 years old. It was a very nice size and weight with a fairly slim head for a 16". But use a piece of pipe that's a bit too long and......
I kept watching online and an identical 16" Proto wrench popped up on Ebay a few weeks ago so I nailed it! It was like new and about the same price as my original was in the 80's.
