I opened the saw up and the stud for the pawl had come loose. Luckily the spring and pawl are in good shape. The spring on the other side had also popped loose. I was able to put everything back in place and everything works now. The saw started right up again. Thank you to everyone who helped. I honestly would have taken out the screws on the recoil spring and that would have been a disaster! I looked behind the pull cord and found a raised square where a label might have been a some point. The label no longer exists. View AttachmentThat's good news, glad you were able to find the problem and get it going again. That's too bad about the serial tag label being missing. Although, if your still interested in dating the saw, it can be approximated by checking the production date stamped into the Walbro HDC carburetor. Walbro stamped the month and year into these carbs back in the day and generally were about 2-4 months prior to the saws production date. Unfortunately, you need to remove the carb to get a good look at the date. Cheers. Steve

Leon of www.leonschainsawpartsandrepair.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html has on his site tons of Homelite info, IPLs on just about every Homelite chainsaw, over 1000 pages of Homelite Technical Service Bulletins ( of which I contributed over 400 pages) and other literature (catalogs ect...) The Homelite Factory Service Manuals ( 3,4,5,) can be downloaded at the chainsaw collectors site.
