I picked up 2 super ez's for $40 from someone local on CL and both of them have clutch cover issues, 1 has a crack in it on lower left side and the other one has a chunk missing out of it the size of a silver dollar hole broke out everything else shows nearly no wear on the saws and are in excellent condition and paint other then these cover issues. So i am wondering if this is common flaw in super ez's something happens that wears or hits the cover around the clutch? And what causes it? The chain hits it somehow or something? Seems to me like most of these end up with same issues because for every 3 i see on ebay usually at least 1 says in the description that it has a crack or broken on lower left side of clutch cover as well.
I was just curious because what's the point in finding some good ones to replace them if it will just end up doing the same thing? or am i wrong and it isn't that common and i just see the bad ones?

The hole that's about the size of a silver dollar over the clutch area is caused by the clutch cover screws backing out of the clutch, usually on the S clutch,& they cut a perfect hole in the drivecase cover.I have a couple of these "customized" drivecase covers. You can eliminate this happening by periodically checking those screws. The cracked drivecase cover is caused by people trying to twist a pinched bar out of a cut (IMO).If a person doesn't know how to get a pinched bar out of a cut then take some classes on how to operate a chainsaw, there's no shame in it.I've only come across 1 or 2 of these drivecase covers out of almost 30 saws in this family. You should be able to find a good used one for around $15 or less.Try chainsawlady, she might have one laying around. If not,Leon might have one too.

The hole i'm taking about is broken out jagged pieces off the left backside of clutch cover not in the side of it from the clutch bolts i guess i can see how my poor description of the damage would make you suggest that my bad lol i was just using silver dollar as about the size of the broken out piece on the backside left of cover but your answer to the cracks may be also the cause of why 1 is cracked and other is missing a big piece off lower left backside of cover too. So at least i know what probably caused it thanks edju1958 for your response. I'll wait until leon's store is back up and check the link you provided ty.

Now that I know what you're talking about I can relate to it better.I've got an XL-400 that the lower half of the drivecase cover was broken out when I got the saw.Of course the oil line had a fuel line on in it's place & the muffler was missing a stud.It makes a person wonder how much abuse people dish out to their saws.I wonder if they treat their cars & trucks the same?
