I bought a nice running C7 & it needed a new fan housing.I got the new fan housing on Sat.& have tried to put the spring in unsuccessfully.First off, which way does the spring go into the housing? It can go in either way thanks to the brilliance of Homelite to cut notches on both sides of the bottom of the pulley so it can be put on backwardsAnd thanks top the previous owner who took the pawl assembly apart,he lost the little spring that goes under the big washer.Luckily I have an extra spring from a spare pawl assembly from a C5 I was unable to get one full turn on putting the recoil spring back in without it jumping back out.How do I get it to stay in place?

I have never worked on a C- series starter so I may not be the best person to give advice, but the starters that I have done have always winded clockwise.
The spring usually attaches close to the where the rope goes out the hole.
On my XL-2 I had to wind it by hand small enough to fit down into the pocket of the cover. I used a few wire ties to hold it together...,,but it took me about an hour.
On my XL-12 it conveniently has a seal retaining loop that holds itself together....that was nice!

I've come to the conclusion that Homelite didn't want the average saw owner to work on his own saw.Because I have a problem with the knuckle on my right hand & also due to the fact that trying to put the spring back in the fan housing is just impossible for me to do,I'll be sending it to Bob Johnson to put back together. I've done all sorts of recoils without a problem, but this one kicks my butt. When it comes to the point that I want to throw the recoil so far away that I never see it again, then it's time for me to walk away & admit defeat.I've got better things to do with my time than cuss at a recoil.

Well with my son's help I finally got that dang spring in the fan housing & the pulley is on with the new rope.I went to put the rest of the recoil assembly together & noticed that I need another brake washer, part # 56456.I also need 2 more for my other C9.I noticed that Leon doesn't have any & there are none on eBay.I'd ask Joyce, but she's incapacitated. The moron who had the C7 previously tore the recoil apart & had no idea what he was doing & in the process lost the washer & the brake spring.I happened to have an extra spring on hand from a C5 recoil, but no brake washers.

Well I finally got the C7 recoil put back together and working properly I had to replace some of the washers inside The Recoil with fiber washers and now it works just finey

Sent your package August 25. It is supposed to be delivered Saturday, but I doubt it. The postage was 49.90. I thought that was a lot. My friend mailed it, so I don't know if there was a cheaper way to send. The total is $42.34. joycewilson26@gmail.com

Did you mean $9.90?I think you forgot to hit the shift key when you hit the #4 key. When I read $49.90 I almost fell out of my chair.Lol If you don't give explicit instructions as to how you want an item mailed then it's kinda tough for anyone to figure out.My guess is that your friend sent it Priority Mail, which would indeed get here by Sat.,maybe even sooner.Thank you!
