After almost exactly 2 yrs.of messing with this saw I finally got it running today.A few days ago I was looking at the original carb & reed assembly & noticed that one of the reeds had a small chip in it.I didn't think that a chip that small would've affected the saw running,it was sealing just fine.Anyhow,I pulled the kit out of the original carb & put it in the carb from the 400 that had a seized engine that I picked up last winter, along with the reed assembly from that saw as well.I had a bit of a problem getting it going, but after a couple primes it started, but wouldn't stay running. After checking the needles I found the hi was closed. After re-adjusting the needles & idle screw I got it running & idling nicely. Now I need to locate the air filter & cover. No more thorn in my side,Lol

I guess I spoke too soon about no more thorn in my side. The saw runs great & I found an air filter cover & air filter for it.It seems that the XL-400,XL-12,XL-15,& SXL all take the same air filter cover & air filter.I thought it was rather odd that I didn't find those parts in the garage.I must've used them on a SXL.Lol Back to the woes of this saw.As I said it runs great, but neither of the oilers works.I could've sworn that they both worked when I got the saw 2 yrs.ago.I did notice that the oil line that runs from up front to the rear had been replaced with a hose.I'm assuming that's where my problem lies.I'll have to delve into this further.I do have another oil line that's on the saw with the buggered engine. If this involves tearing the crankcase apart it might have a looooong wait before it gets repaired.

Good news & even gooder news - I found the oil line from the other XL-400 that had the seized engine,it was the same as a SXL.I had a heck of a time getting the rubber antivibe block in place while trying to get the oil line fitting started. Finally got it put back together & the auto oiler doesn't work & the manual oiler works so-so.I'm thinking the O rings on the plunger need to be replaced.I also replaced the front handle, the bracket on the underside was broken & was held on by a do-it-yourself botch job using a pipe hanger. The poor old saw was in really rough shape when I got it 2 yrs.ago.The oil pump button was missing, one muffler stud was missing & tyhe muffler cap was all bent up,the handle was in rough shape, the oil line was something to be desired, the drivecase cover was broken, the recoil was messed up,the flywheel was missing a couple of fins that were right next to each other & would lock up the recoil,& it ran like crap.I saw a lot of potential.I can't wait to take the saw out.
