I came across a SEZ in my garage that for some reason I didn't mess with over the winter.Since it's a wash out today weather-wise I figured I'd take a look at it.The first thing I did was check for spark, which it has great spark. The next thing I did was put a shot of fuel in the plug hole & it fired.I then gave it a prime in the carb & it wouldn't fire.I found that to be a little strange,so I took a compression reading on it & it has about 140 psi. So,I pulled the carb to have a look.Obviously I'd never been into this carb before.I pulled the pump side cover & found the screen missing,no biggie,I've run into that before.Next I pulled the metering cover & therer was no gasket. Now I know someone who didn't know what they were doing was in this carb.I started to disassemble the carb & got to the circuit plate & noticed that the metering lever was laying flat, like it didn't have a spring under it.Sure enough, once I took the screws out for the circuit plate there was no metering spring.I guess the previous "mechanic" didn't think it was necessary.Lol I'm fairly certain that I have a spring here that came out of a junk carb

I'm pleased to say that this SEZ is now a runner with one minor glitch. The manual oiler doesn't want to oil.The auto oiler is working just fine, usually it's just the opposite.I tried taking the oiler out of another saw that had a good working manual oiler, but it wouldn't work in the newly revived saw.I'm beginning to think that the check valve might not be working. The last time I tried changing out a check valve I ended up changing the entire rear handle assembly because the check valve wouldn't seal,it just kept leaking. So I went back in the garage looking for one SEZ in particular that I bought on Feebay that had a stripped out plug hole.I've been looking for that saw for months now & can't find it.Anyway,I found another SEZ that has some carb issues.I started the saw,but it was running extremely rich.I theorized that the metering lever is set too high.I pulled the carb & it has a new kit in it that I'd put in this past winter.I've watched a couple of Leon's vids pertaining to the HDC's & they've helped me considerably.I set the metering lever lower & I'll see if I have the time tomorrow to install the carb & see how it goes.

I tried lowering the metering lever yesterday, but now it only fires on a prime.I might've set it a bit too low.I had another carb available,so I put it on the saw & it fired right up.I had a heck of a time getting the saw tuned. When the saw was idling too fast I turned down the idle screw about 1/4 turn & it seemed to be too much. The saw will run very fast at initial start up,then it'll idle down.I've done the tilt test & it passes that just fine.I'm wondering if the check valve is starting to go bad? Today I started the saw & it ran much better than yesterday.I still don't know what to think.

Have you tried adjusting the starting speed Screw? Just a thought.... Not sure if it would really affect the saw quite the way you’re describing but I had some problems with a Super Mini due to that screw being turned out too much.

Yes,I've tried adjusting both needles to get a different outcome, but it still acts the same.Tomorrow it's supposed to rain,so it might be a good day to try to replace a check valve on one of the half dozen carbs I have that just don't want to work with a new kit in it.I don't understand why Walbro is the only carb that has a check valve in it (to my knowledge),Tillotson & Zama don't have them.Give me a Tilly carb any day of the week, they're a much better carb all the way around.
