I have one of those that I actually paid for, $10 I think it was. I have not got it running but it is very cool, engine on the bottom, fuel in the handle, I like it.

I have a couple of those also. An 80 and a 100. Neither of mine run, but they're kinda neat display pieces.

Assuming they're nowhere close to me, but if they were, I'd be all over it!

Man I wish I had a nickel for every one of those I worked on! Used to work on several a day. In fact, my first job in the shop after I got done mowing the grass one day was to put in pull ropes. The boss told his son to show me how to put a rope in one, so he did. I put in the next 3 and a new Homie mechanic was born! I was 15 at the time. It was nothing to have 10 or 12 of these in our shop at one time. They were unique but engine down in the grass and dirt was not a very good deal. Main issues were carb problems and grass wrapping around the crank and going through the lower crank seal.
I have a new fuel tank tube in a box if anyone is serious about restoring one and needs a tank. Free to a good home.

Homelite must have sold a lot of them. A good friend of mine has been in the small engine business for over 40 years. He sold Homelite products in the 70s and 80s. A memory he shared was having about 100 of these trimmers come in on an order. I wish he would have saved a couple new in the box ones! I had a chance to buy a new/never used one a few years back but didn't follow through with it... Dumb on my part.

I had an old Homelite string trimmer that I bought at Central Tractor about 30 yrs.ago.I remember I had to take it to an elderly retired farmer who went into the Homelite business after he retired from the dairy business. The bump feed wasn't working,so he reamed it out with a drill bit that was 1/64 in.bigger than the hole & it worked great. He never charged me a dime either.I stopped using a string trimmer over 20 yrs.ago.Now I just use a sprayer with weed killer twice a yr.I ended up selling my trimmer at a yard sale about 10 yrs.ago.

I still use my ST-260 that I got new in 1988. I'm gonna be pretty sad when it bites the dust.
I think we got our first string trimmer in about 1980, maybe 81. It was a ST-100, man we really thought we had something. If you've never ran one, you probably don't need me to tell you they're a lot different than a top engine model. The big difference that you wouldn't expect is that if you get a strong running ST-100, which is a big IF, the direct drive has a noticeably stronger feel than the flex cable drive. Most of them were pretty doggy, but like anything else, some run stronger than others. Occasionally you stumble onto one that ran pretty strong.
I'll admit, it would be nice to have an old ST-100 around that runs. Not many would have one. And an FYI, if you decide to gas one up that's been sitting for years, be ready for all the gas to run out everywhere.
