Hi all,I bought what I thought to be a Super Mini with a few missing parts.I figured no problem as I have plenty of the parts needed - air filter nut & bracket, fuel cap,& recoil spring.I got the saw today to find more parts missing than the seller had posted - bar nut & bar plates.Plus, the dumb ass didn't know how to pack a saw if his life depended on it which resulted in a broken air filter cover.I have plenty of covers here, but that isn't the pointAlso, when I took the saw out of the box I didn't see a Super Mini,I saw an EZ.Even though I only paid $18 for the saw he should've had the model listed correctly & ALL of the missing parts listed.

Yeah I am personally finished with buying EBay saws. Too many shady deals and crappy saws. It’s a lot of money and time spent for garbage saws and dealing with crappy sellers. Out of about 10 saws bought on EBay probably half of them weren’t worth the cost of shipping.
I’m sticking with kijiji and Marketplace unless I know the EBay seller is trustworthy and really really really want a saw.
My personal thoughts anyway. I can total relate to you Ed.

Kijiji is not an option for me,the international shipping fees are a killer.I like the seller in Vt.,she has a free return policy that I only had to use once. Most of the time the sellers will work with me because they simply don't want the item back. Case in point:I contacted the seller about returning the saw.Apparently he thought he was dealing with a moron,or he's a moron himself. He said it'd cost ME more to ship the saw back than what I'd paid for it.I wrote back to him & told him that it'd cost $24 + shipping to replace all the parts that were either broken or missing in the original description,& if he didn't want to refund the $24 then HE'D have to give me a FULL REFUND + HE'D pay the return shipping as per the Ebay money back guarantee.I got the refund! Lol

I've been so dang busy that I haven't hadf a chance to even look at the Super Mini till today. No spark,so I pulled the flywheel & found a new set of points that were breaking properly. My guess is the condenser is bad,so I'll pop a new condenser in either tomorrow if time permits or another time this week. The cylinder fins were packed full of dust which tells me they were running the saw with a dull chain.I found a set of bar plates for it & a bar nut.I'll get it running & together in no time.

I had a little time yesterday after an eye dr.appointment to work on the Super Mini.I did something stupid,as we all do from time to time.I was in a bit of a hurry & didn't even look at the points,so I just put them back in,set the gap,& reassembled the saw. What a mistake that was! I ended up taking the saw all apart again & this time the points came out.I immediately understood why there was no spark. The points had what looked to be hardened grease on them.Once I got that crap cleaned off I found the points to be pitted, not too awfully bad,but bad enough that they needed to be filed.Once I got them cleaned up with a file & emery cloth they looked like new.I'll pop them in the saw today & set the gap & see if I get spark. The new condenser is already in.It was explained to me by a guru why the points pit.As the condenser starts to break down & leak it transfers material from one side of the points to the other. If you've ever noticed a set of points that are pitted, there'll be a build up of material on one side of the points while there'll be an indentation or pitting on the opposite side - hence the transfer of material.

I put the ignition system all back together earlier & whatdaya know,I had spark.I got the saw to fire on a prime, but couldn't get it to draw fuel on it's own.I pulled the carb & the pump side was fine, nica & pliable. The metering side was a different story though, the diaphragm looked like it'd been through hell & back.I've got another carb here that should be good to go,I rebuilt it back in the late winter when I was in SEZ heaven.Lol

Today was just one of those days that I think twice about working on saws.I worked on 5 saws & only was partially successful on one. You'd think that after going through 3 carbs I'd get one that was good, but not the case.I put 3 different carbs on the Super Mini & every damn one of them is no good. They might be good if I could put a new check valve in them, but I'm not able to,so to me those carbs are junk.I have 2 more to try tomorrow, maybe one of them is good yet.I'll have to see if I can find another HDC somewhere for the XL-1.Very discouraging day.

I ordered some check valves for those dang HDC carbs.I look at it this way - the carbs are no damn good the way they are,so if I screw them up I'm out $20 for 5 check valve kits.If I have to use a giant magnifier, then so be it.It sucks being legally blind!

Just curious, do you vacuum test the carbs? Seems that almost everything I putz around with mechanically has a carburetor issue, your reply is going in my "knowledge notebook" :-) What kind of carb would you rather use?

I don't pressure test the carbs I work on & this is why - shortly after getting a MityVac I was using it to pressure test a carb & no matter what I did to the carb it leaked down rather quickly.I checked the MityVac to make sure I had the valve closed.I had another member from here with me at the time & he said "screw it,let's put it on & see what happens".We put the carb on the saw & it ran flawlessly. So much for pressure testing carbs. Of all the carbs to work on & have the least amount of trouble with them,I'd rather work on a Tillotson any day of the week as opposed to a Walbro or God forbid,A Zama.A Zama carb is my worst nightmare.

I took the carb off the XL-1 & put it on the Super Mini today & finally got it running. It ran so well that when I flipped the switch to shut it off it wouldn't shut off.Lol I had to take the recoil off to find out that the switch wire was disconnected from the coil.I reconnected the wire, put the recoil back on & the saw wouldn't start.I checked for spark & it had none, the switch was no good.I had to take the recoil off again & take the switch out.Funny thing was yesterday I grabbed a rear handle from an SEZ for the grommet & took the grip & switch out.It sure came in handy today.Once I had the "new" switch in the saw started & shut off like it's supposed to.Next thing I had to do was find a bar & chain that was meant for the saw.Someone had put a D196 bar & a non-LP chain on it.I found a nice roller nose bar from an SEZ & a 3/8 LP chain. The saw sounds great, but it'll be needing crank seals. Here are some pics.Don't let the recoil mislead you,it's really a Super Mini as it says on the tag.

Thanks Ed. You work on more saws in one week than I have ever had in my entire "collection". Will keep your experiences in mind when I'm working on my saws... R&R

My neighbor stopped by last week & asked me if I'd take down a couple of trees for him.I don't mind helping out my neighbors every now & then so I said sure.Well today was the day & the little Super Mini was the saw that was used as the limber.I took out a Mac Super 6-10A to try that one out for the dropping of the trees. Both saws needed some fine tuning, but ran well.
