Admittedly, I’m not sure familiar with the XL-12 series, but to my knowledge they never made a XL-12 with automatic oiling. They did build a Super XL in both manual and automatic variants and also a Super XL-12, but I believe all those saws had the different style oil tank. I don’t believe the XL-12 has any provisions for an oil pump or an oil pickup in the tank, so unless you’re wanting to do some major custom fab, probably not an easy way.
I suppose if you picked up an SXL-AO you could mix parts from the two to get automatic oiling and still have an “XL-12”, but the saw would be more SXL than XL-12 anyway.
I guess it would also be good to know why you’re wanting/needing automatic oiling. I’d be tempted to pick up an SXL-AO which is very similar to the XL-12 but has automatic oiling and slightly larger displacement.
In any case, welcome aboard!

I'm afraid it is not possible to do that conversion. The drivecase on the XL-12 will not accommodate the automatic oil pump. Your best option is to keep the XL-12 if it has sentimental value and buy a Super XL Automatic.
