My C52 recently died and would not restart. spark plug was dry so I removed the carbutetor and it looks like it has never been apart. Gaskets were old and needle valve stuck. I got it apart and cleaned up. When I opened up my overhaul kit that bought on e-bay I found this message that tells me to leave a gasket out but I just cant figue out which one. Here is the diagram I found on HOH and the message from the kit. I also found good reference for the e-bay seller here on HOH.
All help appreciated.

What I did with my first couple of HL rebuilds was pay very close attention to what was in the carb & in what order it was in.A little too late now,but if you go to the Tillotson site they have a pretty good IPL there too.

It's not telling you to leave a gasket out, it's talking about the various diaphragm materials used. As additives found their way into fuel in the 60's, Tillotson and the saw brands that used them noted that the rubber compounds that were being used did not stand up to the fuel. For a number of years, it was recommended that only the teflon based diaphragms be used (the tan ones). Then the did an about face and obsoleted the Teflon diaphragms in favor of a new blend of rubber. Most modern kits from the OEM's contain both so the user can choose. The Teflon blend is a bit stiffer and less affected by the ethanol in gasoline, but the stiffness causes a bit of loss of control, so starting can be a few extra pulls. The rubber compounds seal the passages better but of course don't like the ethanol fuel much. Realistically if the fuel doesn't start to break down, the rubber will be fine. That's what I use in all my carb rebuilds.

Here is what I found. I don't believe this carburetor has ever been apart. When I disassembled the carb I thought the diaphragm and the gasket were 1 piece. Then I compared them to the gaskets in the kit. It wasn't until I got my magnifying glass out i could see the gasket and the diaphragm were stuck together.
I also found the needle valve stuck. I used all the parts in the kit and it runs again. Still need to put the bar on and fine tune.
Thanks for the help
