On the C9 IPL,or the IPL for the C5,C7,& C9 there is no listing for the rubber O ring that helps to hold the retaining ring in place.Without the O ring the nut with the retaining ring will pull right through the AF cover.

Ed, you got my curiosity up. I looked at a bunch of my C series saws and none of them have an o ring on the air box cover nut. All of mine just have the retainer ring. I think that retainer is all that keeps the nut from pulling through. Of course I could be wrong on this. Wouldn't be the first time! 😂 I have seen a couple that the nut pulls through the cover, maybe due to wear or vibration.

Most of the C series saws, from what I know, have a metal nut.The one I just bought had a plastic nut & it had an O ring on it.I looked at a spare cover I have off a scrapped C5 & it had the metal nut with an O ring. The C9 I got from you had the metal nut & it just fell through the cover.I've got to look at my other C5 & see what it has.

That was likely an add-on that the previous owner put there to keep the nut in place. That would be an easy fix...or Homelite just failed to note it in the IPL's. Either way, it's a good method with a worn filter cover.

When I restored my Super 2100, the IPL designated an o-ring between the filter cover and filter and showed it as a new part. I wonder if there is a service memo that addresses that? Greg the Guru will probably know.
