Look at my newest find! My boss asked me to take a look at an old trimmer he had just laying around. Totally clogged with oil buildup but I got it going in 3 pulls (gas in carb throat) adjusted for new gas and she starts right up. I offered him a new Craftsman 4 stroke (it was a freebie on the side of the road)and he said sure.

I thought I had some old Homelite string trimmers...I’ve never seen this model before. Nice job getting it running. Any idea f it’s age?

If the serial number is the same as saws I'll check today but my boss said it was his fathers.

We used to sell lots of them in the 80's. Pretty sure the model was done by the late 80's. They were pretty powerful at the time, basically a Super 2 engine IIRC. They were pretty solid back in the day. About all we ever did to them was carb kits, fuel lines and filters and spark plugs. I never cared for the handle bar and shoulder strap. I put a teardrop loop handle on the one I ran at the shop. Good machine.

Very nice! Have to wonder if that unit shares some of the cowling with the pumps of that same era. Hardly ever see those type of trimmers in my area

Hardly ever see those type of trimmers in my area There were definitely some similarities in the first top engine string trimmer models and the waterbug pump. Pretty sure the starter housing was the same, air filter and cover, and maybe the fuel tank. Those little waterbug pumps were pretty rugged too. Good little engine for the money.

If the serial number is the same as saws it appears that the trimmer is 1986.

Advice on whether a modern gas/oil mixture is feasible with an ST-200? 16:1 is plenty smoky!
