I've been wanting a running C9 for quite some time now & I found one on Feebay a couple of weeks ago.The seller isn't very quick at shipping items out,so I got it yesterday. This is the same person that I got the Super Mini from. She's not very good at packing saws & because of that the air filter nut got smashed & a very small piece of the drivecase got chipped off too,it's not even noticeable. The saw was really filthy & it took me over an hr.to clean the crud & dirt off the saw with WD40 & a rag.I was really surprised the saw had spark. It must be the previous owner believed in keeping the cylinder & piston well lubed, there was oil dripping out of the muffler. He also believed in lubing the Ferry Morse starter which turned out to be not so good, but I got that mopped up pretty good too.In my cleaning endeavors I found the drivecase cover & the fuel tank cover had been broken & welded at one point. The tank cover I'm not worried about as I have a cover from a scrapped C5 that'll fit right over. The throttle lock pin & spring were missing.I'm wondering if one from an XL-12 or SXL would fit right over as well. The part # for the spring & clip is the same, but the throttle lock pin has a different part #.I suppose it couldn't hurt to try.I checked the fuel filter which I found to be clean & in good shape.Next on my agenda was to add fuel & see if I could get the old gal fired up,& fire up it did.It was a bit tricky holding the throttle with one hand while pulling on a short rope with the other.Lol It came with a puny 20 in.bar & no chain. No problem there,I've got a brand new 25 in.Carlton hardnose bar & I'm looking into getting a 27 in..404 chain for $20.I could also take the 30 in.bar & chain off the Remy Super 754 & put it on the C9 as well. Now I have a C5,C71,& 2 C9's.Pics to follow.

The .404 chain for $20 didn't work out - it was too short, but I bought a nice new Oregon chain for $27.Just for the heck of it I fired it up again today, man how I love to listen to those 85.5cc's roar.Lol Here are couple of pics without a chain. The next pics will be with the chain on & hopefully a throttle lock pin too.Lol

IThe saw looks much better & a little meaner with a chain on it now.I cut a chain earlier using the new breaker/spinner I got.Well,I used the spinner part.I wasn't able to break the chain at all.I must've worked at it for at least 45 min.I fired the saw up & had to make more carb adjustments due to there being a load on the clutch now with a chain on it.This saw is going to be a beast & I've got just the tree to sink it into - the big old ash we dropped last April.Lol I went to take some pics, but found my phone to be dead.Damn!

Good deal Ed! I know who to contact if I need any chains modified now lol
Nothing quite like those c series saws in my opinion. Tons of torque but still can turn higher revs. I love my c91

I worked half of the afternoon in 90+ degree heat to get the C9 completed.I put a felling spike on it to help dress it up a bit, then I put a throttle lock pin in it from an XL-12.It doesn't fit quite right, but it works somewhat.I got the saw all back together & the pull rope broke out of it,so I took the recoil off my C5 & put it on the C9.Now it has weak spark.I believe the condenser is going bad.I do have a good condenser that I just bought from Bob Johnson, but pulling down a C series saw to replace a condenser is a RPITA.Maybe I'll just chip it.
I guess by dressing it up I killed it.

I tore apart the recoil to put a new rope in it today & this is what I found.
There were no pieces in the recoil housing,so someone had been into this recoil previously & instead of repairing it properly & getting a new or used pulley they just put it back together with broken parts. This could be the reason why it had a short rope on it too,or they were just too damn cheap to spring for the price of a new rope.I've got another pulley coming from Joyce (hopefully).

I put a recoil on from a C5 to see if I could get the saw running the other day when it was hot & humid as hell, but couldn't get the saw going. It was late,so I gave up for the night thinking the condenser had crapped out on me.Today it was much cooler & the humidity had dropped way off.I noticed the other day that the carb was way out of adjustment too.Well today I went out with the new condenser in hand thinking I'd have to tear into the saw,but something told me to try to start the saw.The worst thing that could happen was it wouldn't start. The first pull it yanked the rope out of my hand which told me it was going to fire.A few more pulls & it sputtered a bit,but then died.I finally got it running & the idle needed to be jumped up & the needles needed adjusting.I finally got it running tip-top.I also checked to find whoever had the saw had put the wrong plug in it.I changed it out to the correct plug. Now tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler & I'm hoping to take the saw across the street to do some serious cutting on that big ash tree.

It only took me 2 1/2 weeks to get across the street & test out the C9.I must say that I'm impressed with this old gal. Those 85.5 cc's pull a 25 in.skip tooth .404 just fine! The saw could use a bit more fine tuning, but very happy with the way it ran today. My arsenal today consisted of a XL-923 with a 3/8 28 in.bar & chain,The C9 with a .404 skip tooth 25 in.bar & chain,a C71 with a .404 27 in.bar & chain, full comp.,& my SXL-925 with a full comp.24 in.bar & chain,3/8.The only saw that didn't get fired up was the 925 & only because it had the shortest bar & chain.Needless to say,the saws I & my son used made short work of that big 'ol ash tree.I'll get the farmer next door to come by with his bucket tractor & load the giant logs onto my trailer after they take the 2nd cutting alfalfa off in the next week or so.I'll get some pics of these big logs.I've never seen an ash tree this big in my entire life.
