Most generally I get my questions answered by looking around the site, but I'm not seeing it.. So when cleaning up a 14mm spark plug thread (this happens to be a XL-12) is the correct pitch 1.25mm? I'm asking because I see a listing for a 1.5mm pitch thread chaser, but the Champion website says 14mm spark plug pitch is 1.25.
Its a nice saw that someone didn't clean and got it hot.

Yes, the correct size for a 14 mm spark plug is M14 x 1.25. An 18 mm plug would be M18 x 1.5 .

One of the most useful tools I've purchased is a M14x1.25 spark plug tap. Amazing how many different engines regardless of vintage, manufacturer, etc. use that thread

Be very careful with a tap, they are much sharper than a chaser and will cut new threads at any angle you start them at. A chaser is much safer as it will normally follow the old threads more readily. The chaser will usually have a blank pilot at the front with no threads on it to guide the start into the old threads. Here is a shot of the chaser I have, both 14 and 18 mm with a 13/16 hex to fit a spark plug wrench and an o-ring to hold it in the socket.

One could easily make one of these from an old plug with a dremel I’m thinking. Just be sure to put some grease on those flats to catch any detritus, wouldn’t want it in the cylinder.

Amazing what I learn on here! I've got a couple different tap and die sets, and I've never even heard of a thing called a chaser... thanks for that info! I'm assuming there are sets of chasers? Will Google... R&R

I guess I miss spoke when I said tap earlier. Mine is a chase similar to the one pictured. I think it was less than $10, bargain in my eyes

Guys,, the tap worked perfect.. Plan B was to cut down a bottom tap and back tap it from the inside... but that's a little tough in such a small cylinder.. but everything worked out great. The saw runs fantastic!
