330 no spark. Found that replacing the coil requires as much, or more, tear down as replacing boot. Got mine torn down but it was late so I’m more concerned with putting it back together. Heard that Leon had done a vid on tear down. Need a link to said video. Thanks, jerry

Now that I have it torn down and before ordering another coil I decided to check spark again. Attached spark tester and turned the crank with my drill. Turned it backwards cause didn’t want the flywheel but coming off. Anyways, I have spark. It’s more reddish orange but it’s there. Couple possibilities: 1. Switch was grounded out 2. Intermittent spark 3. Spark not hot enough to run saw although I tested spark with starter before tear down with starter. No spark! Could have been too much light for the colored spark to show up. Anyone got any idears?

I would say you covered most of the bases. Only thing I would do would be to put it back together and try it with a new spark plug, testing the spark plug for spark before installing it.
The spark would likely be weak in the reverse direction as the coil vs points timing would be way wrong. Try it forward, it might just be fine. I never tried it backwards but thinking about it I would guess that there might be no spark at all that way in some situations.

Check the ground wire from the coil to the switch, they had a habit of burning the insulation off next to the muffler. Homelite solved the problem with a replacement wire that has a heat wrap/guard. Sorry I don't recall the part number, maybe one of the members here can remember the tech service bulletin. Written around the mid 80s to the early 90s.

Got it put back together. Runs good BUT now my hands tingle from coil leaking. Looked at everything real closely before reassemble; saw nothing suspect. Gonna tear down again. Maybe build new ground wires. Maybe encase them in fuel line. What think y’all?
