Just installed my new fuel lines from Leons store. The fitting in the tank was plugged solid so I ran a drill bit and brake cleaner through to clean it out. The old fuel line was black goo. Reassembled and filled with fuel. Pulled rope many times and no start. Removed spark plug and dry as a bone. Watched Leon's 1 hour carb video with the
green needle seat and thought mine could just be clogged. Removed air filter, intake manifold and carb. I found if I shined a flashlight into either end of the
intake manifold I could see lots of light passing by the reed. I removed the bottom section of the HL 141 carburetor and it was dry. I was able
to get fuel flow through the fuel line nipple. Using a razor blade I got the first gasket off without tearing it. I thought the gasket was going to tear on the next section of carb and since I didn't have a gasket kit here is what I did. I squirted motor oil in every fuel passage and on the rubber gasket, then reassembled carb. Within 5 pulls I had smoke.
lots of smoke but it cleared up. It's my guess the carb fuel pump had to be primed and motor oil will do the trick. I also found the rubber grommet on the throttle rod to the carb is bad. Time to start a parts list.
Is it normal for light to pass by the reed on this setup?

Lot's of light isn't a great sign...if the reed gap is more than the width of a sheet of paper, I consider that excessive. But if it's running good, don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Thanks
I only let it run long enough to idle with the choke off. I think I will wait until i put a load on it and fine tune the carb.
Feels great to know it runs at all and idles smooth too.
