I have several old Homelite saws (EZ,EZ-6,707d,770d) that I would eventually like to restore/repaint. The one thing that's held me back is that I'm a little intimidated by removing the recoil assembly. I'm sure it's not that hard but I don't want to make more work out of it than necessary or mess something up. Is there an easy step by step procedure to remove and reinstall the ball drive recoil on these type of saws? Any help is appreciated.

They're not too difficult once you get used to them. Take the 4 screws out of the cable/rope pulley and remove it. Take the 4 screws out of the rotor housing screen, Rotate the screen and spring assembly until the inner spring hook is at the flat area on the ball drive and pry the hook up to clear the flat and remove the screen. Rotate the flat area of the ball drive over each of the 4 screws that hold the ball drive onto the rotor and remove the rotor nut and washers then pull off the ball drive.

It's one of my longer rambles, but here's a video of some ball drive repairs on a 7-19...I make a few mistakes along the way, but get it all taken care of in the end. It had been quite a while since I had tackled a ball drive and I had forgotten more than I care to admit!
