I was going to take my XL-923 out yesterday to cut,but it would only run on a prime.I thought it to be rather strange that I'd rebuilt the carb last spring/summer & the saw ran fine.I've found that sometimes I have to go with my gut,& today was one of those days.I popped the top cover off to see what the pump looked like & I heard it crackle like an old dried out pump does when ya take the cover off.I hadn't run the saw since last summer because the throttle was broken & it needed a new duckbill in the fuel cap.I got those taken care of & never took the saw out in the fall due to me having back surgery.I've never had a fuel pump dry out like that & become stuck where it wouldn't pump fuel.I put the cover back on & pulled on the choke & decomp & one pull later it fired. The next pull it fired & ran a short time. The 3rd pull was with the choke off & it fired right up just like last yr.! Now the next time we go out to cut that 923 is ready to go.I've got one of my muscle saws back in service!

Good to hear you have it back in action! That sounds like classic damage from this damned ethanol laced fuel we have these days.

Good to hear you have it back in action! That sounds like classic damage from this damned ethanol laced fuel we have these days. I gave this quite a bit of thought & finally came to the conclusion that it happened due to residue from old fuel & oil mix still in the tank. It's not from ethanol because I've been using ethanol free fuel for 2 yrs.now with Amsoil. When I started & ran the saw a giant cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust especially when I hit the throttle. It'll probably take a couple of tanks of fuel through the old gal before it clears up.

I'm not clear on this incident you report. 8 years ago I had 1 saw. After getting more saws and fixing them for myself and one friend who used them in his job.It only took a few years for me to see the E-10 effects and I totally swore off E-10. I have used E-10-mix in a machine and ceased it's further use, to only later still have carb diaphragm failure. They turn leathery and stiff. I call it soggy potato chip, sometimes stiff enough to be like a kids cricket snapper toy. I have a pile of them on my desk...LOL Now I have over 65 saws mostly given to me for free cause they were dead. I fixed about 90% of them.

Since I got the saw up & running again I took it to my neighbor's today to cut some rather large size tree trunk.I had to come in from both sides with a 24 in.bar on it.It cut fairly well for an old 77cc.gal.That was the first time it cut wood in who knows how many yrs.
