I just picked up this great looking saw complete except for the recoil cover and spark arrestor. It has spark and compression. It has a rim sprocket so hopefully I can go to .404 chain.

Yours looks good, a little better than mine... I did the rim conversion on my 7-19C-21" and 707D-30" from 7/16 pitch. Now that I also recently acquired a EZ-6-17" and I will do the same on it... Large format rim drive is good for 404-8 404-7 and 3/8-8 which all works on a hard nose bar. You probably know this! My EZ6 needs a cylinder/spark plug shroud and a carb dog house. edit: OOPS all the rims on the desk here and I'm now confused as to what is in my rim inventory that fits the old saws. will report back...

I have an Armstrong clutch drum with an attached rim sprocket that appears to be .404, the one on top is definitely a .404.

Custom machined residue from a spur sprocket? Is the rim brazed on? if so...not that great since the rim can not float on the splines to self center in line with the bar...
measured diameter=?
404-8=1.779"
3/8-7=1.602"
404-7=1.519"
