So I've decided to go all out and go through the 410 and everything looks good but dirty. Can anyone tell me if I need to split the tank to install the fuel line? The line comes out at the top of the tank and I really can't use hemos or long needle nose pliers.

I have not worked on that model, but i have always made do without tools by slicing the fuel line in half for a distance to push through the tight hole in tank to get to the fuel cap area. Then reach in and fish out the hose and pull enough through to reach bottom of tank after installing filter. You have to waste a little fuel line to get to where you can grab it to pull through though. I use some silicone on outside of line so it pulls through easier. Have not had to split or remove any tanks yet. Dan

Besides tapering the end of the hose like ettrick says, I sometimes drill a small hole in the line and twist a wire through and around. Then I send the wire through the hole ahead of the hose to be sure I can find the end of the hose in the tank. If I feel confident, I will pull on the wire to bring through the hose. Works sometimes. I always make sure the hose is too long to start, trim once it is in place.

It also helps to lube the hose with a light oil,WD40,or something of that nature. Ed

The wire trick is the best for the 410.

I use 1/8" X 3/16" hose with good results.
